I'm not sure why, but I LOVE witch books...probably because the wonderful Ms. J.K. Rowling introduced us to the wonderful world of magic! It was one of the first times that I gave reading a 'real' book a chance and she reeled me in the first chapter. So without further ado here are some of my favorite books about witches, warlocks, and most importantly MAGIC!
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
The first time I picked up this series was my freshman year of high school. I remember being riveted. I couldn't put it down! The series only improved from there. I remember those awful years between books where I would pine for anything Harry Potter (it never realized then that there might be other amazing fantasy books out there...)
There are seven books in the series. (The sorcerer's stone, The chamber of secrets, The prisoner of Azkaban, The goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows)
Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz
This duo was spectacular. Really well written and both were very quick reads. It isn't necessarily one of my favorite series, but it was well worth the time. Solid characters and story line made for a fun easy read.
There are two books in this series (Spellbound & Spellcaster)
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
So the main character Sophie gets set to a special school for paranormal kids shortly after she discovers that she is a witch. Through out the series Sophie really develops as a character and so does the plot and story.
There are three books in this series (Hex Hall, Demon Glass, and Spell Bound) Rachel also wrote a wonderful spin off book that is currently a stand alone with talk of maybe making additions to it. That book is called School Spirits.
Salem Witch by Kelly McClymer
As a former cheerleader and wanna-be witch I am not sure there is anything better than witch-cheerleaders. Kelly McClymer does an amazing new spin on high school witches with this series. It was a little caddy but highly entertaining.
There are three books in this series ( Salem witch tryouts, competition's a witch, and She's a witch girl).
Magic in Manhattan by Sarah Mlynowski
This was a cute series and for me it was really more of a pre-teen/ young teen series. That doesn't mean it wasn't cute though...
There are four books in this series. (Bras & Broomsticks, Frogs & French Kisses, Spells & Sleeping Bags, Parties & Potions)
Jinx by Meg Cabot
This is one of my all-time favorite stand alone books. Here is the description from good reads: It's not easy being Jinx.
The
only thing Jean Honeychurch hates more than her boring name (not Jean
Marie, or Jeanette, just...Jean) is her all-too-appropriate nickname,
Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes—which is why
she's thrilled to be moving in with her aunt and uncle in New York City.
Maybe when she's halfway across the country, Jinx can finally outrun
her bad luck. Or at least escape the havoc she's caused back in her
small hometown.
But trouble has definitely followed Jinx to New York. And it's causing big problems for her cousin Tory, who is not
happy to have the family black sheep around. Beautiful, glamorous Tory
is hiding a dangerous secret—one that she's sure Jinx is going to
reveal.
Jinx is beginning to realize it isn't just bad luck
she's been running from. It's something far more sinister...and the
curse Jinx has lived under since the day she was born might just be the
only thing that can save her life
