THE DARKEST CRAVING (Lords of the Underworld #10) by: Gena Showalter
4 Stars
This is an Adult Romance Novel with ADULT content :)
New York Times
bestselling author Gena Showalter is back with a breathtaking Lords of
the Underworld tale about a warrior trapped by darkness and the woman
determined to save him
Having endured weeks of torture
in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful
rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the
demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he’s determined to kill, no matter
the price.
Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal
family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He’s also the only
male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as
they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a
choice: live apart…or die together.
I feel like it has been way too long since I have read Gena Showalter...when in all actuality I have read quite a bit from her this year. However she is such a versatile writer that I find myself forgetting that she wrote the white rabbit chronicles too. The books are SOO different and the main reason is probably because they are intended for two completely different audiences. Gena's story telling ability never ceases to amaze me and Kane's story is really no different.
Background on the Lords of the Underworld from goodreads.com :
Long ago, twelve
immortals warriors – each more dangerously seductive than the last --
stole and opened Pandora’s box, unleashing the evil from within. Now
they carry that evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease,
Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath.
When a powerful enemy returns, they will travel the world in search of a
sacred relic of the gods – one that threatens to destroy them all.
Kane is the keeper of Disaster and he is the main character in this book. I have always felt sorry for Kane. In the previous books he walks into a room and the ceiling falls or the electricity shorts and he gets shocked...so sad. I feel like he more than the others, can never live a normal life even for a few hours. In the past few books Kane had a fairly large presence and because I don't want to give away any spoilers for those who haven't read the other books, but it wasn't pretty. I was so happy to learn that he was finally getting his story and a little chance of normal. There were some really interesting concepts in this book and although Torin (promiscuity) wasn't in this book a lot I look forward to his story "The Darkest Touch" Which will be out in 2014 YAY!!
Gena has also written a spin-off series called Angels of the dark. I recommend reading at least the first 6 or 7 books of LotU before you start it. The third book in that series 'Burning Dawn' will be out in April and I am pleased to show the pre-order poster that includes the cover that Gena released TODAY!!
SOOO awesome! Can't wait!
